Lyons Athletic Club

A message from the Director of Athletics and Recreation:

We are extremely excited to be re-launching the Lyons Athletic Club as a way to support our athletic programs at Wheaton. By supporting your team and/or the general athletics department you certify that your experience as student-athletes at Wheaton helped to shape the people we are today. 100% of your gifts to the LAC go straight to the team of your choice or the athletic department. Over recent years, gifts to the LAC have helped to renovate and outfit the Tokarz Varsity Weight Room, provide funding to hire our strength & conditioning and sport psychology partners, as well as to helping a number of our individual programs travel domestically and internationally for varsity competition. We can't thank you enough for your new and continued support of Wheaton athletics. Go Lyons!’’ – John Sutyak '00

Our Mission

The Lyons Athletic Club (LAC) promotes excellence in intercollegiate athletics at Wheaton College through the support and participation of alumnae/i, parents and friends. In partnership with Wheaton’s Department of Athletics and the Office of College Advancement, the LAC raises funds to support athletics. All gifts to the LAC count toward Wheaton’s alumnae/i participation.

How does the LAC work?
You have a variety of options.  Your gift to the Lyons Athletic Club may be directed to the General Athletics Fund where the Director of Athletics will use the funds to enhance programs and facilities that might affect all student-athletes.  You can also direct your gift to a specific team or teams, or, you can support a combination of both the general athletic fund and a team.

Your Gifts at Work

Gifts to the Lyons Athletic Club help our athletic programs in many ways. They enhance the budgets of our 21 varsity intercollegiate teams, provide funds for extra equipment, supplies and travel, help with athletic facility needs, and  assure that our student-athletes have the proper tools necessary to be competitive at the NEWMAC and national level.

This list showcases examples of the direct impact a gift can have on an individual student-athlete,
a team, or the general athletic program:

$50 – Helps to fund one additional student-athlete at post-season competition

$100 – Provides warm-ups for one swimmer, diver or synchronized swimmer for the entire season

$250 – Purchases airfare for one softball or baseball player to compete during spring break

$500 – Pays for game balls for one of our two soccer teams each year

$1,000 – Supports a team meal for one of the lacrosse teams during spring travel

$2,500 – Funds the purchase of hardware and game analysis software for one of our two basketball teams

$5,000 – Pays for the cost of streaming all home athletic contests so alumnae/i and parents around the world can follow their team

$10,000 – Provides annual funding for our strength and conditioning service, or for the services of a sport psychologist to assist our student athlete’s performance in competition and in the classroom

Why I Give

“My Wheaton experience, in particular my time as a Wheaton Soccer player, significantly shaped my life. I owe my fellow teammates and Matt Cushing major credit for helping me become the person I am today. Most of my closest friends today are former teammates. For these reasons I happily support the men’s soccer program each year. With the launch of the new Lyons Athletic Club fundraising program, I hope that you will follow my lead and support your team and/or the general athletics program. I believe that it is crucial for all of us to provide this support and assure that current and future student-athletes are able to have similar or even greater experience than we did when we were playing.” –Matt Ristuccia '05

“Wheaton's athletic facilities, teams and programs have become a major contributor to the health and well-being of students and faculty.  As a graduate of the class of '57 where we had limited opportunities, I'm thrilled to see the College committed to providing handsome sporting grounds and buildings for competitive and intramural activities. It's exciting to now see the College value and support athletic programs as a contributor to a healthy body and a healthy mind.” –Judy Smith '57
