Wheaton athletics unveils new Web site for first time in nearly a decade

NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College Department of Athletics unveiled its new and improved Web site on Friday, announcing the launch in partnership with PrestoSports.  The new site can be found at athletics.wheatoncollege.edu, as Wheaton went through a redesign for the first time in nearly a decade.

With innovations geared toward making the site more attractive, interactive and informative for alumnae/i, fans, friends and supporters of Wheaton, the official athletics Web site will expand its efforts to provide Lyon followers with complete information on all of Wheaton's sports.

"We're extremely excited to have partnered with PrestoSports, which has provided athletics solutions for a number of years," said Assistant Director of Athletics for Media Relations Scott Dietz.  "This platform will assist with the promotion of the outstanding success stories of our student-athletes and programs.  We feel confident our site and its many distinct offerings are now in line with some of the top Division III sites in the country."

Featuring a sleeker, streamlined look that is dynamic and user-friendly while providing more elements than ever before, the site includes a unique design and a number of distinctive features.  Some of the items include rotating story features, an interactive poll and video capabilities.

The athletics portion of the site was designed by Wheaton's sports information staff and PrestoSports, while other areas of the site were integrated with the institutional site, which displays sections such as "Off the Field" for student-athlete blogs.  The "Champions" feature highlights success in the classroom and community in addition to conference and national championships won.

Revamped facilities pages and a new multimedia area including links to broadcasts, live stats and RSS feeds in addition to Wheaton's social networking platforms in Facebook and Twitter are prominently displayed, as is a space for featuring student-athletes who appear in the media.  The athletics programs' histories were also an emphasis and can be seen throughout awards lists, facilities descriptions and record books.  "'Y' The Lyons?" provides a historical perspective of the Wheaton nickname and mascot.

PrestoSports also houses the official New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Web site, which allows for the implementation of conference standings and additional features on the Wheaton site.  League members Babson College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) also have sites hosted by PrestoSports.

Founded in 1834, Wheaton is a selective national liberal arts college with 1,550 students drawn from virtually every state and more than 69 countries. The college combines a traditional curriculum in the arts and sciences with an innovative emphasis on real-world experience - internships, jobs and volunteer service - to help students make the connection between theory and practice. Its students gain admission to the nation's most prestigious graduate programs and regularly win competitive academic awards such as the Rhodes, Marshall and Fulbright scholarships.

PrestoSports is a leading technology provider to collegiate athletic departments with services including Web site design and hosting, live stats, award management, merchandising, and officiating.
