Lyons hit all-star break
NORTON, Mass. – Here is the latest Wheaton College baseball summer update with highlights on the progress of the student-athletes within the program. This week's update all features some highlights from some Lyons in the pros.
Futures Collegiate Baseball League
Rising senior Justin Silvestro (Waltham, Mass./BC High) continued his torrid pace at the place collecting six hits – including three doubles, one home run and two RBI – to raise his slash line to .298/.337/.500 on the season in 22 games played for the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs.
Against the Nashua Silver Knights on July 5, Silvestro went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to help guide the Dirt Dawgs to an eventual 6-2 victory.
Michael Bruemmel (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) made one start last week for the Worcester Bravehearts on July 4. Bruemmel went 4 2/3 innings while striking out four hitters in the loss. Bruemmel currently sports a 1-2 record on the season (seven games) over 23 2/3 innings pitched.
New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Dan Southerland (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) made his first NECBL start of the season against the Danbury Westerners on July 3. Southerland went three innings and struck out one batter in the no-decision.

In The Pros
Chris Denorfia '02 compiled five hits, two runs and one double to help the Cubs to a 5-1 record from June 29 to July 5.
Mike Gibbons made his Double-A debut in a spot start for the Binghamton Mets on July 3. Gibbons went 6 1/3 innings pitched yielding four hits, three runs (all earned), and one walk alongside three strikeouts. To view the box score and the recap click here: Box score | Recap
Other news and notes:
Kyle Kasprzyk (East Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) threw a no-hitter on Thursday, July 2 against the Quincy Phillies to earn Cranberry League Pitcher of the Week accolades. Kasprzyk only walked one batter and struck out three in the 4-0 victory for the Bourne Mariners.
Later in the week, Kasprzyk was named to the Cranberry League (CBL) All-Star team. The CBL All-Stars will play the Yawkey League All-Stars on Sunday, July 12 at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, Mass. at 1:30 p.m.
