D3BASEBALL.com - Wheaton College head coach Eric Podbelski was named the 2016 D3baseball.com All-New England Region Coach of the Year, while senior reliever Eric Dumas earned a spot on the first-team, while sophomore Dan Southerland was named to the second-team.

The Lyons concluded the season with a 31-13 overall record, which marked the 12th time the program had posted 30+ wins in a season, while advancing to the NCAA tournament for the 13th time in program history.

The D3baseball.com Coach of the Year honor is the first for Podbelski, who has been named the NEWMAC Coach of the Year eight times and the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Coach of the Year five times.

Dumas was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Pitcher of the Year earlier this season after finishing the regular season with an NCAA leading 13 saves. The senior picked up his first win of the season on May 19 in the Lyons 6-5 win over Suffolk in the NCAA New England Regional. The win was the fourth of his career.

Dumas become the fifth Wheaton pitcher to earn NEWMAC Pitcher of the Year honors, collecting the teams sixth overall honor.  The righty has made 21 appearances this season, pitching 22.2 innings, collecting 18 strikeouts for a 0.40 earned run average (ERA). He has allowed just five runs on 17 hits to the 80 batters he's faced, holding them to a .213 batting average. His 13 saves is the third best by a Lyon pitcher in a single season.

Earlier this week Dumas earned a spot on the 2016 NEIBA Senior All-Star Game next month.

Southerland, who picked up his first NEWMAC honor of his career, made 10 appearances for Wheaton this season. The sophomore right-hander led the NEWMAC in both wins (7) and shutouts (1). His 2.27 ERA was the third best by a starting pitcher in the NEWMAC. Southerland has faced 203 batters in 63.1 innings, allowing just 20 runs on 41 hits, while striking out 41.

Southerland has the nations second best WHIP (0.77), while ranking 14th in hits allowed per nine innings and 24th in walks per nine innings. In the Lyons final game of the 2016 NCAA New England Regional, Southerland started the contest on the mound for Wheaton, pitching seven complete, giving up two runs on six hits, while striking out four and walking none.
