BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Sophomore Jenna Rocha (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) scored her third goal of the season in Wheaton College's 2-1 loss at Bridgewater State University in non-conference field hockey action Sunday afternoon.
The win improves the Bears to 5-3 on the season while the Lyons even their mark at 4-4.
Senior Breanna Clement (Pittsfield, Maine/Maine Central Institute) opened the scoring at 29:07 when she converted a pass from junior Shelby Farland (Fiskdale, Mass./Tantasqua Regional) off a penalty corner into her fourth goal of the season, giving BSU a 1-0 lead. The Bears took that lead into the break, holding a slim 4-3 edge in shots through 35 minutes.
Rocco tied the score at one just over 10 minutes into the second half as she scored off a pass from classmate Emily Chick (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) at 46:36. Chick slid a pass to the middle of the circle and Rocha buried a shot into the left side of the goal.
Farland potted the game-winner eight minutes later, taking a pass from Clement and beating sophomore goalkeeper Ellie Massengill (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) at 53:36.
The Lyons outshot the Bears 11-6 in the second half and finished the game with a 14-10 edge in that category. Wheaton also attempted 13 penalty corners, compared to eight for BSU.
Massengill finished with five saves while junior Cassie Johansen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) stopped 10 shots to earn the win for the Bears.
The Lyons host Wellesley Thursday at 4 p.m. The Bears play at Westfield State Wednesday at 7 p.m.
