Massengill turns away a game-high eight shots
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Wheaton College field hockey team suffered a 3-0 setback to Clark University on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
Clark freshman Lauren Mackey (Dublin, N.H./ConVal Regional) scored her first of two goals at 14:50 in the first half, which provided the Cougars with the lead for good. Mackey's second goal occurred at 40:34 in the second half before classmate Isabell Zoeckler (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hard) netted the final tally at 67:41.
Wheaton senior co-captain Emily Chick (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) recorded the team's only shot, while classmate Ellie Massengill (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) turned away eight shots. Clark sophomore Christine Tinsman (Prairie Village, Kan./Pembroke Hill School) finished with one save for her fifth shutout of the season.
The Lyons recorded one shot and six corners, while Clark registered 11 shots and 14 corners.
Wheaton (4-10, 0-5 NEWMAC) will look to snap its three-game skid on Tuesday, October 22 when it hosts Babson College in a NEWMAC contest on at 7 p.m. The Lyons will be holding "Pink Day" against the Beavers next Tuesday in effort to raise awareness for breast cancer. Clark (8-7, 1-4 NEWMAC) will also compete on Tuesday, as the Cougars will entertain Springfield College in NEWMAC league play at 7 p.m.
