NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College field hockey team was defeated by New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competitor, the Springfield College Pride, 4-0 on Saturday at Nordin Field.

The Lyons (6-4, 0-3 NEWMAC) held their ground in the first half, utilizing their defense to deflect shots and scoring efforts from the Pride (5-5, 1-2 NEWMAC), not allowing any goals.

Michelle Trainor and Katie Peters put forth shots for Wheaton, but couldn't break through to get on the board.

In the second half, Springfield came alive as they put their first goal through in the 36th minute. They held onto the momentum and spiked in three more goals throughout the remainder of the half.

Hannah Southard almost broke through for the Lyons with a shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but was deflected last second by the goalkeeper.

Wheaton's goalkeeper Riley Thompson tallied seven saves and Emily Curran grabbed one.

Wheaton travels to MIT on Tuesday for another NEWMAC competition with game time slated for 6 p.m.
