NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College field hockey team fell 3-1 to visiting MIT on Tuesday night in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest.
MIT (8-2; 3-0 NEWMAC) took a 1-0 lead just a minute into the first half on Emily Penn's first goal of the game. Senior Amelia Gage's fifth goal of the season leveled the score a few minutes later, but the Engineers responded with just under 10 minutes left to play when Rayna Higuchi notched the game-winning goal. MIT added an insurance goal at the 56th minute mark with another Penn goal.
The Engineers finished the contest with an advantage in both shots (25-4) and corners (17-2). Riley Thompson made three saves for the Lyons, while Cailey Talbot was not forced to make any for MIT.
Wheaton (4-7; 0-4 NEWMAC) returns to the field on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. at home against Westfield State in a non-conference match-up.
