NORTON, Mass. - Junior Katie Peters scored twice, while senior Amelia Gage scored once, as the Wheaton College field hockey team earned a 3-2 come from behind victory over Westfield State Thursday night in the first meeting between the two sides.
Wheaton (5-7) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute on the first of Peters' two goals only to see Westfield State (8-4) tie the game a minute later. Holly Brouillette netted the Owl's goal after receiving a pass to the center of the circle. Carly Zona gave Westfield State the lead on a penalty corner in the 29th minute, which would last until the second half.
Gage knotted the game at 2-2 in the 42nd minute after a nice offensive surge from the Lyons. Kelsey Buckley setup Gage with a fluid pass from the right side that found Gage wide open. Wheaton kept the pressure on, netting the game-winning goal less than a minute later. Gage collected the assist after spinning away from the Owl keeper and a defender and sending a pass to Peters who was parked at the far post.
Wheaton returns to the field on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 12 p.m. in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) home game.
