CHANDLER, Ariz. – Senior Amelia Gage has been named to the 2016 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III New England East All-Region Second-Team as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Monday.
Gage was one of 97 student-athletes on the second team across the six regions, which included the Great Lakes, New England East, New England West, North Atlantic, South Atlantic and South. Broken down by class, the All-Region squads consisted of 94 seniors, 56 juniors, 39 sophomores and eight freshmen.
The honor is the second of Gage's career and second in as many seasons. Gage was also named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Second-Team at the conclusion of the season.
Gage ended the year ranked second in the NEWMAC in game-winning goals (4), fifth in assists (8) and eighth in points (26). The forward also wrapped up the year ranked 56th in the nation in assists per game with 0.47. Nationally, Gage wrapped up the season ranked 50th in assists per game with 0.47.
Overall, Gage ends her career at Wheaton second all-time in assists (27), fifth in total points (81) and seventh in goals (27), while netting six game-winning goals during her time on the field.
The Lyons ended the season with a 7-10 overall record and 2-6 NEWMAC record, which ties the teams best under head coach Cara Reese. Wheaton ended the 2016 campaign just one game shy of making the NEWMAC Tournament for the first time since 2010.
