Cara Reese, who was named the seventh head coach in the history of the program, joined the Wheaton College field hockey staff in 2013, before resigning following the 2018 season. Prior to Wheaton, Reese spent seven years at Vassar College including a four-year stint as head coach. Reese turned in her resignation from Wheaton in Jan. 2019 in order to focus on more time with her family.
In her six seasons at the Wheaton helm, Reese has accumulated 42 wins, which is third-most in program history. Offensively, five of Reese's six teams have made their way into the Wheaton record books for most goals scored in a single season, including 45 in 2015, which is fifth best in Wheaton history.
Reese had four athletes earn a total of five New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference honors, while three student-athletes earned four National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-New England honors.
In the classroom, Reese's teams tied the single-season program record for NEWMAC Academic All-Conference selections with seven total (2015, 2016, 2018). Overall, 21 different student-athletes garnered 33 NEWMAC All-Academic honors under Reese.
In addition, the Lyons had a program-high 17 student-athletes named to the named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad in 2014 and 2017. Reese also had one student-athlete garner Scholars of Distinction accolades. In total, the Lyons have earned 72 NFHCA National Academic Squad honors in five seasons (2013-2017).
Reese was an NCAA Women Coaches Academy graduate and has served on the National Coach of the Year and North Atlantic Regional Ranking committees.
