Men’s Basketball Drops to WPI 70-55

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's basketball team dropped 70-55 against the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) Engineers in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup on Wednesday.

The Lyons fall to 9-14 overall on the season and 3-10 in the NEWMAC. The Engineers improve to 19-5 overall and 9-4 in conference action. 

The Engineers went on to take a 20-9 advantage with 12:35 left in the opening half before Wheaton pulled within four, following a layup by junior Quinton Dale 16 minutes in. Dale went on to secure a double-double in the game with 11 points and 10 rebounds. He also dished out four assists, two blocks and a steal.

Nearing the end of the game, the Lyons closed it to a 13 deficit after a jumper by senior Billy Battaglia, triple by junior Timothy Berry and a pair of free throws by first-year Nick Geremia. WPI first-year Jashanti Allen had the final say with a jumper with 43 seconds to go.

Four of the five Wheaton starters achieved double digit scoring from Dale (11 points), Battaglia (14 points), first-year Duaka Ekwensi (10 points) and Berry (10 points).

The Lyons host Emerson College in their last regular season game as they recognize Senior Day with action slated to begin at 1 p.m. in Emerson Gymnasium.
