NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton men's basketball team more than doubled its win total from the year before, while moving up a spot in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) standings. The Lyons look to continue the trend this season after losing just one player from last seasons squad.
Billy Battaglia '16 led the way for the Lyons last season, concluding his stellar four-year career by becoming the program's seventh all-time leading scorer, netting 1,281 points in 91 games.
With Battaglia being the lone senior from the 2015–16 team, the Lyons look poised to stand out in the ultra-competitive NEWMAC. Wheaton, which is returning 16 players, will rely on Quinton Dale '17, Timothy Berry '17, Zach Parsons '17, and Ryan Fogarty '18 to lead the team in the upcoming season.
Academically, Ben Christopher '17 and Alex Sugarman '17 were recognized by the NEWMAC for their work in the classroom, earning Academic All-Conference accolades. The pair also were named to both the Wheaton College fall and spring Dean's Lists. Christopher also was the recipient of a Davis International Fellowship, while Sugarman was awarded a Wheaton Fellowship for the summer of 2016.
