Colorado College Tops Wheaton, 9-4

Keiver leads team with two markers 

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team was dealt a 9-4 loss by Colorado College in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at Washburn Field. 

Freshman Alex Keiver (North Andover, Mass./Kimball Union Academy) paced Wheaton offensively for the second-straight game with two goals. Sophomore Matthew Hillman (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) and senior Billy McNamara (Mansfield, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon School) chipped in with one goal apiece. Seniors Sean Doherty (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) and Will Compton (Deering, N.H./Proctor Academy) and junior Cam Hanlon (Hanson, Mass./BC High) dished out one assist each. 

Sophomore Henri Halle (Englewood, Colo.) buried a game-high three markers and dished out two helpers. Junior Jack Kreitler (Fairfield, Conn.) potted two goals and senior Steve Rijo (Basking Ridge, N.J.) scored one goal and set up two more. 

After both teams were held scoreless in the first quarter, Rijo gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead at the 13:33 mark of the second on a feed from Halle. Keiver responded with 8:09 remaining on the scoreboard as Compton set up the freshman attacker for his fourth goal of the season. 

Colorado College closed out the half on a 4-0 run, spearheaded by two goals from Kreitler, to take a 5-1 advantage into the break. 

In the third quarter, McNamara deposited his fifth goal of the year at the 3:00 mark to cut into the deficit at 5-2. Halle regained the four-goal cushion for the Tigers 20-seconds later with his first of three goals in the contest. 

Halle scored two more in the fourth quarter sandwiched in between markers from Hillman (14:24) and Keiver (1:41) while sophomore Sayre Thomas (Boisa, Idaho) capped the scoring at the 1:32 mark. 

Wheaton junior goalkeeper Harrison Bramhall (Barrington, R.I./Trinity Pawling) stopped a game-high eight shots. Colorado College freshman Chase Murphy (Cohasset, Mass.) made four saves to improve to 4-1 overall on the season. 

Both squads went 7-for-14 in face-offs and tied in the ground balls category at 26-26. The Tigers completed 15-of-19 of their clear attempts while the Lyons were 9-for-12. 

Wheaton (0-4, 0-0 Pilgrim) hosts Lasell College in its first home game on Wednesday, March 20 at 4:00 p.m. Colorado College (4-1) plays Babson College in a non-conference matchup at John Hopkins University on Saturday, March 16 at 6:00 p.m.
