Bramhall records 19 saves in loss
BOSTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team fell to Wentworth Institute of Technology, 9-7, on Saturday night in non-conference action at Sweeney Field.
Wheaton senior Sean Doherty (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) potted three goals, scooped up four ground balls and caused one turnover. Sophomore Matthew Hillman (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) notched two goals and seniors Billy McNamara (Mansfield, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon School) and Will Compton (Deering, N.H./Proctor Academy) added one goal apiece.
Junior Steve Glover (Marstons Mills, Mass./Barnstable) led the Leopards offense with three markers. Freshman Nick Parent (Windham, N.H./Central Catholic) and sophomore Michael Cushera (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) chipped in with two goals each. Classmate Ryan Coakley (Flemington, N.J./Immaculata) dished out a game-high six assists.
Down 5-3 at the half, McNamara made it a one-goal contest at 13:19 of the third quarter with an unassisted tally. Wentworth answered with two unanswered goals as sophomore Dillon Lynch (Southwick, Mass./Westfield) found the back of the net at 6:58 and freshman Tim Parlato (Needham, Mass./Needham) capitalized on the momentum 30-seconds later with his only score of the game. Parlato also added a game-high eight ground balls as he went 12-for-19 at the face-off X.
Parent doubled the Leopards advantage in the fourth quarter on a nice feed from Coakley at the 14:29 mark. After Doherty and Glover exchanged man-up goals to put the score at 9-5 in favor of Wentworth, Hillman closed out the quarter with markers at 2:31 and 40-seconds remaining in the game.
Wheaton junior goalkeeper Harrison Bramhall (Barrington, R.I./Trinity Pawling) stopped a season-high 19 shots and assisted on Doherty's goal at 7:11 of the second quarter. Wentworth junior goalkeeper Jared Proulx (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South) made 13 saves.
The Leopards won the ground balls matchup, 36-35, while the Lyons were 21-for-25 on clear attempts. Wentworth outshot the visitors, 39-28, and converted 15-of-18 clear attempts.
Wheaton (5-5, 2-0 Pilgrim) visits Babson College for a conference clash on Wednesday, April 17 at 4 p.m. Wentworth (10-2), winners of four-straight games, hosts Western New England on Tuesday, April 16 at 4 p.m.
