NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team defeated the UMass-Boston Beacons, 11-10, Tuesday evening in a non-conference matchup at Nordin Field.

The win advances the Lyons to 4-5 overall while the Beacons move to 4-5 on the season.

Sophomore Matt Morgan led the Lyons with four goals and one assist while senior Will Morrison (two goals), senior Ryan Gjerset (two goals, three assists), sophomore CJ Leighton (one goal), senior Zach Brode (one goal) and sophomore Josh Talanian (one goal) all added marks on the board for Wheaton. The Beacons were guided by Clay Arnold who registered three goals in the contest with Calvin Lee and Josh Holmes each recording two.

To open regulation, UMass-Boston was first to jump on board with back-to-back goals to take the early lead. Morgan and Morrison would shut the Beacons down before the quarter ended with three straight goals, pushing Wheaton ahead 3-2. The Lyons held on to their momentum entering the second quarter as Leighton laced a goal of his own at 13:52. UMass-Boston would register two more goals before entering halftime, but Wheaton would fight right back with two additional goals and hold a 6-4.

In the third quarter, the Lyons would remain hot, dishing out five goals and holding the Beacons to only three, allowing them to garner a four-goal lead into the final fifteen minutes of regulation, but UMass-Boston would chip away the lead by putting up three unanswered goals to put themselves within one. Wheaton's defense were able to half the Beacons there and seal the 11-10 victory.

The Lyons travel to Emerson College on Saturday to compete next in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game scheduled for 1 p.m.
