Babson Tops Men's Lacrosse

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team fell, 19-9, against the Babson College Beavers in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup on Wednesday night at MacDowell Field.

Junior Austin Fabel and first-year Tommy Jung both scored twice for Babson, while junior Jason Cox and sophomore Brendan Duffy each contributed a goal and an assist for the Beavers. Junior Connor Maloney won 9-of-13 face-offs and led the team with six ground balls.

Sophomore Matt Morgan had three goals and classmate CJ Leighton scored twice for the Lyons. Junior Scott Whear scooped up a game-high eight ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers in the loss.

Sophomore Brett Bottomley opened the scoring just under three minutes into the contest and Cox, Mishkind and Duffy followed with tallies just 25 seconds apart to give the Green and White a 4-0 lead with 10:22 to go in the first quarter. First-year Harrison Page made it 6-1 late in the stanza, and the Beavers erupted for nine second-quarter goals to build a 15-2 advantage at the break.

Senior Daniel Madden opened the period with his first career goal, and junior Erik Patriquin picked up his first collegiate point with a tally in transition to make it 12-1 at the 6:16 Mark. Allen added all three of his goals and Fabel chipped in with a goal and an assist to help Babson break the game open with its highest scoring quarter of the season.

Junior Axel Brown and Mishkind scored 38 seconds apart early in the third to give the Beavers a 17-2 advantage, their biggest of the game, before Wheaton tallied six of the game's final eight goals. 

First-year Chandler Miller turned away seven first-half shots for the Lyons.

Wheaton hosts Springfield College on Saturday for another NEWMAC competition with game time set for 1 p.m. at Nordin Field.
