Men's Lacrosse Defeats Anna Maria in Season Opener

  • The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team was paced by a hat-trick from sophomore Lou Mainella and junior Troy Sliney, while Alex Berg, Gil Bach, Alec Morin, Mike Abramo, and Shane Ross each contributed one goal apiece in the Lyons victory.
  • Sliney picked up a game-high 15 ground balls while junior Teg Cosgriff led the Lyons with three caused turnovers.
  • Anna Maria was led by Quinn Hannagan, Cameron Perry, Jacob Smith, Patrick McGuane and Zion Mercado who all netted one in the Amcats loss.
  • The Lyons opened up the game strong with a goal at 8:27 and another at 2:40 to put Wheaton ahead early with a 2-1 lead after the first quarter. The Anna Maria Amcats fought back in the fourth quarter with a goal at 12:00 and another at 3:49 but it wouldn't be enough to stop the Lyons as they continued to control the clock, running it down to solidify their first regular-season win. 
  • Both sides battled defensively throughout the game, with Anna Maria's Garrett Strain picking up a game-high four caused turnovers and tallying seven ground balls for the Amcats.  
  • Chandler Miller picked up the win in net for the Lyons, coming up with 14 saves after seeing 18 shots. Anna Maria's Gage Garcia made 16 saves after seeing 27 shots.
