BOSTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's soccer team defeated Emmanuel College, 3-1, in a non-conference clash on Tuesday night at Roberto Clemente Field.
Juniors Travis Blair (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) and Marlon Ramalho (Framingham, Mass./Bridgton Academy) and freshman Steven Pinski (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hedrick Hudson) netted one goal, respectively, while junior Scott Enman (Brooklyn, N.Y./Packer Collegiate Institute) and sophomore Michael Cronin (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) each registered one assist.
Sophomore Jackson Towle (South Berwick, Maine/Marshwood), who appeared in net for the second time this season, earned his first win.
Wheaton finished the match with 22 shots, 13 shots on goal and 11 corner kicks. Emmanuel concluded with three shots, one shot on goal and two corners.
Emmanuel's junior goalkeeper Garrett Charette (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) turned away ten shots between the pipes.
Senior Danny Richman (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) provided the Saints with a one-goal advantage at 16:17 in the first half before the Lyons answered with Pinski, who netted his first strike of the season at 41:28. Cronin set up Pinkski's goal.
The Lyons earned the lead for good at 63:48 in the second half when Ramalho scored a goal off a rebound, his first-career game-winning tally.
Blair secured the Lyons first road victory of the season after receiving a pass from Enman and rifling the clincher into the Saints cage at 84:20.
Wheaton (4-1) travels to Wesleyan University on Saturday, September 14 in a non-conference matchup scheduled for 12 p.m. Emmanuel (1-4) will host Lesley University on Thursday, September 12 at 7 p.m. With the win, the Lyons are now 2-0 overall in their all-time series against Emmanuel College, the first meeting occurred last season.
