Men's Soccer Drops Season Opener, 2-1

NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's soccer team opened the 2016 campaign on Thursday as the Lyons hosted the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards at Keefe Field, but dropped 2-1.

The Lyons (0-1) kicked off action right away in the first half when Steven Pinski tried to push through a shot on Wentworth's Matthew Sekerak who secured the save. Wheaton would go on to push in four more shots from J.D. Souza, Amara Sesay and Curran Wait before the momentum switched over.

Wentworth (1-0) found their opening at 25:34 when Noah Martins scored a goal from Kenneth Callahan. Wheaton responded with a few additional shot attempts, but enter halftime down 1-0.

In the second half, it was the a battle of the offense as both teams tried to set up passes to hit the open pockets but came up empty. Martins went on to score his second goal of the game when he was assisted by Stephen Frazier at 75:18.

Wheaton gained momentum back just four minutes later as Adam Waks pushed in a shot from Sean Hurlburt to put the Lyons within one.

But that wouldn't be enough as the clocked ticked down and the Leopards maintained possession and claim the 2-1 win.
