NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's soccer team utilized three goals to top the William Paterson University Pioneers, 3-0, on Saturday at Keefe Field.

The Lyons (1-1) outshot the Pioneers (1-1) 20-11 and held the 6-3 advantage of corner kicks.

Wheaton opened the game with an immediate offensive push, starting with first-year Roni Diniz who put forth a shot on goal just ten seconds into the game. The Lyons maintained possession for a while longer as Diniz, junior Sean Hurlburt and first-year Chris Brubaker offered additional shots, but missed just wide.

With a final effort at the end of the first half, first-year Neil Fitzgerald found the opening that scored his first career goal, pushing the Lyons ahead 1-0. He was assisted by junior Amara Sesay

Sesay didn't stop there as he registered a goal of his own at the start of the second half and gave Wheaton the 2-0 advantage.

The Pioneers and Lyons juggled the ball back and forth until William Paterson tallied three more shots before senior Steven Pinski took a quick pass from Diniz to net the third and final goal of the game at 61:11.

Junior goalkeeper Erik Wisniewski earned the shutout win for the Lyons, tallying four big saves.

Wheaton hosts its next game on Sunday as they take on Rutgers-Newark at 1 p.m. in a nonconference matchup.
