NORTON, Mass. - Junior Amara Sesay notched his third goal of the season when he shot from the right side of the net, earning him the game-winning goal in overtime as the Wheaton College men's soccer team recorded its third-straight victory, defeating the Western New England Golden Bears, 2-1, at Keefe Field.
During the first half, the Lyons (3-1) jumped on the board just nine minutes in as senior Kevin Davis passed to first-year Roni Diniz who headed the ball in for the first goal of the game. Western New England (0-3) gained momentum later in the half as Troy Remillard recorded a goal into the right side of the net to tie it.
The second half was quiet as both teams attempted to get back on the board to take the lead. The Lyons led the Golden Bears in shots this half 10-3. A last chance shot effort by Sesay nearing the end of the half was saved by goalkeeper Kevin Strobel.
Kicking off overtime, Wheaton jumped on the ball immediately when Davis nailed a shot that missed just high. Nine minutes in was when Sesay found his opportunity to net the game-winning goal for Wheaton.
Junior goalkeeper Erik Wisniewski earned his second win of the season, tallying three saves.
Wheaton outshot Western New England 23-13 overall and led in corner kicks 8-1.
The Lyons get on the road the first time this season, traveling to Keene State on Saturday with game time slated for 3:30 p.m.
