Men's Swimming Defeats UMass-Dartmouth; Fall to WPI

  • The Wheaton College men's swimming & diving team returned to action Wednesday evening, picking up a win over UMass.-Dartmouth (155-79) while falling to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe WPI (133-97) in the Tripp Athletic Center.

  • The Lyons started the night with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, with the team of Jacob Cost, Richard Matthews, Kevin Silva, and Elias Steward finishing in 1:40.44.

  • First-year Zachary Koffman put together a strong performance in the 1000 free, winning the event with a time of 10:32.55. Finishing moments later and earning third place was Jesmond Bollman (10:37.81).

  • Cost earned his first individual win of the night with a victory in the 500 free after touching in 22.86. Matthews also earned an individual victory, taking first place in the 200 IM with a final time of 2:04.96.  

  • Hajmil Carr earned the Lyons points in the men's 1-meter dive after earning third place with a score of 169.55. Carr also finished third in the 3-meter five (175.60).

  • Silva and E. Steward finished back-to-back in the 100 butterfly with Silva leading the way with a second place finish (54.30). E. Steward finished in 55.03.

  • Daniel Roch finished third in the men's 100 free with a time of 49.59, while Cost (52.15) and Chris Steward (56.94) finished second and third in the men's 10 backstroke.

  • Koffman and Bollman earned top-three finishes in the 500 free, led by a second place finish from Koffman, who finished in 5:10.36.

  • The Lyons ended the night with a second place finish in the 200 free relay with the team of John Giberti, Brennan McIntyre, Roch, and Timmer Sposato touching in 1:30.11.

UP NEXT: Wheaton returns home for its final home meet of the 2018-19 season on Saturday, Jan. 19 with a 12 p.m. dual against Tufts University.
