Lyons to race at Harvard University on Sunday
PRINCETON, N.J. – Two members of the Wheaton College men's track and field team competed at the Princeton University Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Alexei Spinu (New Cannon, Mass./New Cannon) placed fifth overall out of a field of 17 runners in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.91, his second-best mark in the event this season.
On February 2 at the New Balance Boston Collegiate Invitational, Spinu qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 1-2 at the New York City Armory with a time of 1:56.07. His season-best time of 1:56.07 is just shy of the 1:56.00 qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III All-New England Championships scheduled for February 22-23 at Boston University.
Spinu also won the 800-meter run earlier this season at the Wheaton Invitational on January 19 with a time of 1:58.74.
Freshman co-captain Sam Miklovich (Gray New Gloucester, Maine/Gray New Gloucester) placed third overall in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:11.95. Miklovich's personal best this season in the event is 1:10.02 which he ran at the New Balance Boston Collegiate Invitational. Miklovich has also clocked a time of 1:10.07 at the Joe Donahue Games on January 25. Miklovich finished 13th overall among 20 competitors just under a month ago.
Wheaton will return to the track tomorrow as the Lyons travel to Harvard University for the USATF New England meet.
