Men’s Track & Field Solid In Two Meets Over The Weekend

Mullings shatters personal best time in 200m

NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's track and field team split its squad between two events on Saturday afternoon competing at the Boston University Terrier Invitational and the Springfield College Invitational.

Boston University Terrier Invitational

Junior sprinter Javon Mullings (Brooklyn, N.Y./Boys and Girls) ranked ahead of 17 NCAA Division I student-athletes in the 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 23.35-seconds (109th overall). Mullings shattered his previous personal best time of 24.01-seconds and just missed the NCAA Division III New England Championships qualifying standard by .11 (23.24).

Mullings also posted a time of 7.51-seconds in the 60-meter dash for a 94th place finish overall.

In the 500-meter run, sophomore Dylan Cooper (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson) and first-year Nicholas Balow (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) nearly met the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships qualifying standard in the event with times of 1:08.41 (52nd overall) and 1:09.59 (68th overall), respectively.

Junior Alexei Spinu (New Canaan, Mass./New Canaan) ranked 85th in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.48, while seniors Harry Bachrach (Watertown, Mass./Beaver Country Day) and Brendon Pickering (Merrimac, Mass./Waring) clocked times of 4:34.07 (140th overall) and 4:41.68 (166th overall), respectively, in the one mile run.

In the 60-meter hurdles, senior Ben Sharma (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) finished 57th overall with a time of 9.20-seconds and sophomore Brendan Sullivan (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) came in 66th place with a time of 9.87-seconds.

Springfield Invitational

Junior Sam Miklovich (Gray New Gloucester, Maine/Gray New Gloucester), senior Nathan Sheridan (Albuquerque, N.M./Desert Academy) and first-year Gabe Putnam (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) all competed in the 600-meter run for the Lyons finishing seventh, eighth and ninth in the event. Miklovich posted a personal best time of 1:33.01, while Sheridan had a time of 1:33.15 to edge Putnam who recorded a time of 1:33.16.

First-year Aidan Hickey (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) ranked 20th overall in the one mile run with a time of 5:08.77, while classmate Jonathan Friedman (Bethany, Conn./Amity Regional) was 18th overall in the 400-meter run in 57.58.

Senior Olufunsho Olagundoye (Victoria Island, Nigeria/Cushing Academy) and junior Joe Verran (Acton, Mass./Belmont) rounded out the list of highlights in the 60-meter dash with times of 7.72 (17th overall) and 8.62 (24th overall), respectively.

Wheaton returns to action on Saturday, February 7 at the Ramapo Indoor Select meet held at the New York City Armory and the Scarlet and White Invitational, hosted by Boston University.
