Spinu Places 18th In 500m At ECAC Championships

Junior posts a time of 1:07.51

NEW YORK, N.Y.  – Wheaton College junior middle distance runner Alexei Spinu (New Canaan, Mass./New Canaan) finished 18th overall in the 500-meter run on Saturday evening at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships on the NYC Amory Track.

Spinu posted a time of 1:07.51 in the event to rank ahead of ahead of five other competitors including a student-athlete from New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Springfield College.

Earlier this year at the Boston University (BU) Valentine Invitational, Spinu registered a season best time of 1:06.10 in the 500m finishing 25th overall out of 82 entrants and second among all NCAA Division III student-athletes in the event.

Spinu's career best time in the 500m is 1:05.94, which he set in 2014 at the All-New England Championships at BU.

Wheaton will now turn its focus on preparing for the outdoor season, which begins on March 21 at Bridgewater State University.
