KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Junior Megan Roy (North Dighton, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) went 2-for-3 with an RBI in Wheaton College's 4-2 loss to Lake Forest (Ill.) in non-conference softball action Thursday afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games.
The Lyons (2-5) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first. Junior Alanna Monahan (Dorchester, Mass./Southfield School) drew a one-out walk, advanced to second on a groundout, and came in on a double down the left field line by Roy.
Lake Forest answered with four runs in the second to take a 4-1 lead, the first three coming on a triple to right-center field by sophomore Clare Kavanaugh (Concord, Mass./Carlisle). Kavanaugh later scored on a double by senior Leslie Harshey (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein).
Wheaton cut its deficit in half in the fourth with an unearned run. Junior Renee Laflam (Concord, N.H./Concord) was hit by a pitch with one out and scored on a pair of errors by the Foresters. Roy led off the top of the sixth with a double but was left stranded, and the Lyons went down 1-2-3 in the seventh.
Freshman Noelle Christmas (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth South) allowed eight hits and four runs over six innings for Wheaton. She walked three and struck out four. Junior Molly Thomsen (Rumford, R.I./St. Mary Academy) picked up the win for the Foresters to improve to 2-0 on the season. She scattered four hits over seven innings, allowed two runs (one earned), walked one and struck out three.
The Lyons were set to face Farmingdale State at 3 p.m. while Lake Forest was to face Wisc.-River Falls at 3 p.m.
