Freshman first baseman earns first career weekly honor
NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College freshman first baseman Caroline Fairbanks (Milford, Mass./Milford) has been selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Softball Player of the Week by the league office.
Fairbanks hit .529/.600/1.176 (.avg/.obp/.slg) with nine hits total, seven runs, three home runs, 13 RBI and three walks. Against Emerson in a 12-10 win, Fairbanks went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two homers and six RBI.
On the season, Fairbanks is hitting .417/.477/.861 with ten runs scored, four doubles, four home runs, 21 RBI and five walks. Fairbanks leads the NEWMAC in home runs and RBI and also ranks second in the league in putouts with 96 (.990 fielding percentage).
Wheaton (20-2, 5-1 NEWMAC), ranked No. 25 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) national poll, travels to UMass Boston on Tuesday, April 1 at 3 p.m.
