Senior claims first career honor from NFCA
NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College senior Emily Berardi (Boston, Mass./Boston Latin) has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top-Performer List for her efforts last week in games played through April 13-19.
Berardi continued her dominance in the circle for the Lyons last week going 3-0 overall with a 0.00 earned run average (ERA) in 15 innings pitched. Berardi allowed just three hits, one unearned run and issued one walk to go along with five strikeouts. Berardi also limited opponents to a .214 batting average in 56 at-bats. At the plate, Berardi went 4-for-6 with two runs scored, four hits, one double, one home run, one RBI and a perfect fielding percentage on seven chances (1 PO, 6 A).
For her efforts last week, Berardi earned New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Pitcher of the Week accolades as well. Berardi has collected five NEWMAC weekly awards in her career.
On the season, Breardi is 13-1 overall with a 0.80 ERA in 78 2/3 innings pitched. Berardi nearly sports a 5:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio, averages 4.18 strikeouts per game and has held opponents to a .230 batting average.
Berardi currently ranks No. 8 in the country in ERA and No. 53 in victories.
Wheaton (28-3, 17-0 NEWMAC) travels to Wellesley College on Friday, April 24 at 5 p.m. to continue a suspended game from April 10 in the top of the tenth inning tied at 6-6. Bouthillette will enter Friday's contest on an eight-game hitting streak.
