KISSIMMEE, Fla. – In day three of The Rebel Games hosted in Kissimmee, Fla., the Wheaton College softball team earned a 5-4 victory over McDaniel College in extra innings, but dropped 5-4 against Washington College in game two.
The Lyons move to 3-3 overall on the season.
Wheaton 5, McDaniel 4 (Game One, 8 innings)
Senior Emma Hart scored the first run for the Lyons in the third inning when senior Marissa Timoteo knocked her in with a single on the left side. Wheaton's defense held up strong, denying McDaniel's an opportunity to score.
In the fifth, McDaniel's found the momentum when they scored four runs in the inning off a three singles and a walk. Wheaton was quick to respond in the bottom half as Hart crushed her first home run of the season into center field making it 4-2. Junior Danielle Cimino followed her lead with a hit of her own, this time on the right side of the field that pushed in junior Rebecca Seifert for an RBI.
With a strong defense going into the eighth, the Lyons secured three straight outs to get them back to the plate where Seifert went on to clinch the walk off single up the middle to win the game.
Washington College 5, Wheaton 4 (Game Two)
Timoteo started things right away at the top of the first when she pushed in Hart for the first run of the game off a double to center field. Washington responded with a run of their own in the bottom half with a homer to center field.
Junior Caroline Fairbanks helped the Lyons gain the lead back when she hit a sac fly to left field that scored in Hart.
Entering the top of the sixth down 5-3, Hart was able to sneak across home plate one more time when Seifert took a hard hit to the shot stop that earned her an RBI. However, that wouldn't be enough as Washington held on for the 5-4 win.
Wheaton battles next against Ithaca on Wednesday at the National Training Center in Clearmont, Fla. at 1 p.m.
