Softball Collects Two Wins in Final Day of Rebel Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Wheaton College softball team closed out their final day of The Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Fla. with two wins including a 13-7 victory over Hamilton College and 7-3 win over Dickinson College on Thursday.

The Lyons move to 6-4 overall on the season, winning their last three games.

Wheaton 13, Hamilton (Game One)

Hamilton (1-5) got out on top in the first inning when they utilized a single and error to get runs on the board to make it 4-0. Wheaton would respond with two runs of their own in the second when junior Mary DeMoura knocked a single to right center field to score in senior Erin Deneen and junior Caroline Fairbanks.

The Lyons took the lead in the top of the fifth when Fairbanks crushed her third home run of the season, bringing in senior Marissa Timoteo and senior Madeline Hatch, making it 6-4.

Hamilton added their own home run to the board in center field at the bottom of the fifth, but that wouldn't be enough as Wheaton would tally five more runs in the sixth off a two doubles and two singles and one run in the seventh off a single to left field to seal the 13-7 victory. Junior pitcher Danielle Cimino (2-1) would pick up her second win.

Wheaton 7, Dickinson 3 (Game Two)

In game two, senior Kelly Welch kicked things off with a single to right field that brought in senior Emma Hart for the first run of the game. Junior Emily Bouthillette followed her lead with a single of her own, this time right up the middle that scored in Banks to give Wheaton the early 2-0 advantage.

After a walked in run to begin the second, Timoteo and Hatch snuck in the next play off an error in the outfield to make it 7-0. Dickinson (1-9) tried chipping away at the score with two runs in the third and one in the fourth, but it wouldn't be enough as closing first-year pitcher Shelbi Wilson the offense to only one hit to secure the 7-3 victory.

Starting sophomore pitcher, Allison Cox, collects the win and moves to 3-1 overall.

Wheaton travels to Bridgewater State on Tuesday for a double-header beginning at 3 p.m.
