NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College softball team split a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) double-header on Saturday against the Clark University Cougars winning game one 6-0, but dropping game two 4-0.

The Lyons move to 12-8 overall and 6-2 in NEWMAC play, while the Cougars switch to 9-17 (1-7 NEWMAC).

GAME ONE (Wheaton 6, Clark 0)

Wheaton tallied their first runs of the game in the fourth inning when senior Madeline Hatch punched a single to left field to score in junior Emily Bouthillette. Senior Emma Hart collected her own single that allowed senior Erin Deneen to cross home plate for a 2-0 jump.

The Lyons tacked on four more runs in the seventh inning when Bouthillette crushed a grand slam into deep center that knocked in senior Kelly Welch, junior Caroline Fairbanks and junior Mary DeMoura.

Sophomore pitcher Allison Cox registered the win for the Lyons and advances to 6-2 overall, tallying six strikeouts in her six innings pitched.

GAME TWO (Clark 4, Wheaton 0)

The Cougars took control of momentum in game two when they used a sac fly to bring in their first run of the game during the first inning. Clark would grab two more runs in the second inning off of two doubles and a fielder's choice to gain the 3-0 early lead.

The Lyons couldn't utilize their seven hits to get anyone across the plate as the Cougars pushed in one more run in the sixth to seal the 4-0 victory.
