NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College softball team split a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) double-header on Saturday against the Clark University Cougars winning game one 6-0, but dropping game two 4-0.
The Lyons move to 12-8 overall and 6-2 in NEWMAC play, while the Cougars switch to 9-17 (1-7 NEWMAC).
GAME ONE (Wheaton 6, Clark 0)
Wheaton tallied their first runs of the game in the fourth inning when senior Madeline Hatch punched a single to left field to score in junior Emily Bouthillette. Senior Emma Hart collected her own single that allowed senior Erin Deneen to cross home plate for a 2-0 jump.
Sophomore pitcher Allison Cox registered the win for the Lyons and advances to 6-2 overall, tallying six strikeouts in her six innings pitched.
GAME TWO (Clark 4, Wheaton 0)
The Cougars took control of momentum in game two when they used a sac fly to bring in their first run of the game during the first inning. Clark would grab two more runs in the second inning off of two doubles and a fielder's choice to gain the 3-0 early lead.
The Lyons couldn't utilize their seven hits to get anyone across the plate as the Cougars pushed in one more run in the sixth to seal the 4-0 victory.
The Lyons host Babson College (13-9, 4-4 NEWMAC) in a make-up double-header at Clark Field with action kicking off at 12 p.m.
