BOSTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College softball team is recognizing senior Emma Hart, junior Caroline Fairbanks and senior Kelly Welch to the 2016 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference Team, released on Wednesday.
Hart earns her fourth NEWMAC All-Conference honor and second First Team accolade after ranking first in the conference with a .481 batting average. She also finished third overall in the NEWMAC with 20 stolen bases and went on to collect 63 hits including eight doubles, two triples and one home run for 16 RBI. Hart led the team in runs, tallying 47 in her 37 games played.
Fairbanks records her second First Team All-Conference honor, leading the team in home runs at nine, also tied for first in the NEWMAC. She notched 40 hits on the year for 33 RBI and 25 runs scored for a .404 batting average. On the field, Fairbanks registered 218 putouts and eight assists at first base for a .991 fielding percentage.
Welch receives her third straight NEWMAC All-Conference award, being named to Second Team. She wrapped up the season with a .430 batting average, collecting 40 hits, eight doubles and four home runs. Welch tallied 28 RBI and 18 runs scored in her 31 games played.
The Lyons concluded the 2016 campaign as the third seeded NEWMAC team, going 23-14 overall and 12-6 in conference play.
