Softball Falls Late to Skidmore; Drops Game Two to Ramapo

GAME ONE: Wheaton 3 - Skidmore 4

RECORDS: Wheaton (1-6, 0-0 NEWMAC) - Skidmore (2-3)

LOCATION: Kissimmee, Fla. (Osceola Complex)

THE RUNDOWN:  

  • Allison Cox, who got the start on the mound, pitched a complete game for Wheaton, giving up just four runs, while striking out two and walking just one. 
  • The senior also led the team at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a run score, while first-year Clara DeCarvalho finished 1-for-2. 
  • The Lyons plated one run in the top of the first with an Emily Schlapak RBI single that knocked in Lily Ongkiko. Skidmore equalized in the bottom half of the inning.
  • Wheaton took its second lead of the game in the third inning with first-year Hannah Arkin coming in to score on an RBI groundout by Jade Assad
  • The Lyons pushed their lead to two runs in the sixth with Cox coming around to score on a double by Shelbi Wilson
  • Skidmore pulled within a run in the bottom of the sixth, before plating two runs in the seventh to steal the win.

THE RUNDOWN:  

  • After falling behind 1-0, the Lyons tied the game in the second inning with Assad coming in to score on a Ramapo wild pitch. 
  • The Roadrunners recaptured the lead in the top of the third, scoring three runs. Wheaton earned one of the runs back in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI double down the left field line from Assad, knocking in Lindsay Whittles
  • Wheaton tacked on another run in the fourth with Cox coming around to score on an RBI groundout by Riley Benedetto
  • Ramapo added six more runs in the final two innings.
