Senior forward claims third career weekly honor
NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College senior forward Abbie Brickley (Sandy, Utah/Skyline) has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week. Brickley shares the honor with Amber Legare of Mount Holyoke College.
Brickley led Wheaton to a 2-0 week in conference play averaging 22.5 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per game alongside four steals, a .455 field goal percentage (15-for-33) and a .882 free throw percentage (15-for-17). Brickley is a now a three-time NEWMAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week honoree after earning similar honors on November 17 and November 24 earlier this season.
Against MIT on Wednesday, Brickley recorded her fifth double-double of the season with a game-high 28 points and 12 rebounds on 11-of-19 shooting from the floor, including a 6-for-7 performance from the charity stripe.
Brickley followed up that performance versus Springfield on Saturday with 17 points and ten rebounds, with four coming on the offensive glass, to move Wheaton into a three-way tie in the conference standings with Babson and Springfield.
In 13 games played this season, Brickley is pacing the team offensively with 16.9 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game. Brickley also has a .541 field goal percentage and a .714 free throw percentage.
Wheaton (8-5, 4-1 NEWMAC) returns to action on Tuesday, January 13 when the Lyons travel to Emerson College for a conference matchup at 7 p.m.
