Brickley Picks Up First Career ECAC Weekly Honor

Senior lauded for her play from Jan. 12-18

NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College senior forward Abbie Brickley (Sandy, Utah/Skyline) has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) NCAA Division III New England Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week. Brickley shares the honor with Westfield State University senior guard Jen Ashton.

Brickley fueled Wheaton's 3-0 week against New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponents including Emerson (Jan. 13), Wellesley (Jan. 15) and Smith (Jan. 17) averaging 25.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game to go with a 60.9 field goal percentage and an 87.0 free throw percentage. In a hard-fought 74-70 win over Smith to end the week, Brickley matched her second-highest point total of the season registering 28 points alongside eight rebounds to keep the Lyons tied at the top of the NEWMAC standings. For her efforts, Brickley also was tabbed the NEWMAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.

Brickley is averaging 18.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists, a 55.6 field goal percentage and a 76.4 free throw shooting percentage in 16 games played this season (all starts),. Brickley ranks No. 44 in the country in points per game, No. 24 in field goal percentage and No. 77 in double-doubles with six on the season.

Among all student-athletes in the NEWMAC, Brickley is ranked first in points per 40 minutes (26.8), second in total points (296) and points per game, fifth in total rebounds (137), sixth in rebounds per game, second in offensive rebounds (59) and tenth in defensive rebounds (78).

Brickley is also listed second in total field goals made (120), third in field goal percentage, second in total free throws made (55) and fifth in free throw shooting percentage.

Wheaton (11-5, 7-1 NEWMAC), who is currently riding a six-game winning streak and tied for first place in the conference standings, travels to MIT for a NEWMAC clash on Wednesday, January 21 with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.
