DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Sophomore Abby Hamilton knocked down a career-high 17 points in the Wheaton College women's basketball teams final game of the Daytona Beach Shootout. The Lyons fell 77-67 to Randolph-Macon.
Hamilton ended the game 7-of-15 from the floor, including 2-for-5 from long range, as well as a perfect 1-for-1 from the free-throw line. Sophia Black and Oppie Morris also finished in double-figures, with Black knocking down 14 points, while Morris chipped in 12. First-year Natalie Wind contributed nine points. Black finished the game with a team-high five rebounds.
Kelly Williams led all scorers with 23 points for the Yellow Jackets, going 9-for-11 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds in the win. Amber Lee added 17 points in the win, while Kelsey Wisner and Kareema Conteh each scored 10.
With five minutes remaining in the first quarter, Wheaton held a 10-7 lead. The Yellow Jackets responded with a 12-4 run to take 19-14 advantage into the second frame. Wheaton found a way back, capturing a 34-31 lead at the half with baskets from Hamilton and Emily Cuthbertson.
Randolph-Macon turned things around in the third quarter, winning the period 24-19, before outscoring the Lyons 22-14 in the final quarter. Overall the game saw 10 ties and 10 lead changes.
Wheaton returns to the court on Dec. 30 at the Hat City Classic where the team will take on Trinity (Conn.) at 7 p.m.
