DANBURY, Conn. - Junior Oppie Morris was named to the Hat City Classic All-Tournament Team following the Wheaton College women's basketball teams contest against Ramapo on Saturday afternoon at Western Connecticut's Feldman Arena. Despite the Lyons best efforts, the Roadrunners (6-5) squeaked out a 53-50 win.
Morris finished the game with a double-double including 13 points and 11 rebounds, while senior Sophia Black netted ten points and collected two steals on the day.
Tia Solomon collected a game high 16 points for Ramapo. Bridgette Buckalew finished with nine points for the Roadrunners.
Shelby Ringer hit a three-pointer to start the game, helping and the Roadrunners close out the first quarter with a 10-0 run to lead 20-9 with a buzzer beating layup from Solomon. Down but not out, Wheaton responded in the second quarter with a 10-1 run of its own to come within one, 25-24 at 2:15 courtesy of a jumper by first-year Lexi L'Heureux-Carland. Wheaton would held a slim one point, 28-27 advantage at the half, which saw Morris score seven of her 13 points.
Wheaton started the third quarter strong, capturing a six-point, 35-29, lead with 7:48 on the clock but Ramapo responded. The Roadrunners closed the gap to one point with a three from Ringer at 5:43 and taking the lead with two good free-throws from Solomon two minutes later. Wheaton recaptured the lead at the end of the third quarter but in the fourth, Crawford gave Ramapo the lead at 6:32 with a two point goal to go up, 44-42, and they would never look back taking the non-conference game, 53-50.
The Lyons return to the court for New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at home against Emerson College on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m.
