NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's basketball team played its first game in Emerson Gymnasium Tuesday night, falling to the Roger Williams Hawks 73-57. With the loss, the Lyons fall to 2-1 on the season, while Roger Williams picks up its first win of the season (1-0).
Wheaton was paced by a game-high 21 points from junior Mikayla Pucci who finished 6-of-13 from the floor and 8-for-10 from the free-throw line. The forward also pulled down 14 rebounds for her first double-double of the season, while also coming up with three steals. Senior Natalie Wind contributed 11 points in the loss, while Sadie Shore finished one point and one rebound shy of a double-double of her own.
Roger Wiliams was led by Gabby Jerahian and Karli Opalka who each netted 15 points in the win.
Wheaton fell behind early in the first quarter but bounced back to win the second quarter, going into halftime trailing by just 10 points. The Lyons were able to pull within two points, 38-36, on a Bri Forbes jumper with 4:49 to go in the third quarter, but that would be as close as Wheaton would get.
