NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's basketball team dropped a tightly contested contest to RPI Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Emerson Gymnasium, with the Engineers walking away with a slim 50-45 victory.
Wheaton (3-4) was paced by Mikayla Pucci who finished with a team-high 11 points. Sadie Shore led all the Lyons with 10 rebounds while finishing just two points shy of a double-double, netting eight points on a 4-for-10 performance. Senior Natalie Wind chipped in seven points in the loss, while Carli Koffinke had six off the bench.
RPI (3-1) was led by 14 points and nine rebounds from Sam Krumbhaar, with Celia Thomlinson and Courtney Lewis each netting 11 points in the win. Thomlinson also finished with the games only double-double, pulling down 15 boards.
Wheaton possessed its largest lead of the contest following the end of the first quarter, but RPI battled back, outscoring the Lyons in the second quarter to take a 26-21 advantage into the half. The rest of the game was a back and forth with both teams putting together solid runs with the Engineers doing just enough to maintain the lead and earn the win.
