BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team could not hold onto an early lead, falling to Babson College 7-4 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday afternoon at MacDowell Field.
The loss drops the Lyons to 6-6 on the season and 3-1 in conference play. The Beavers improve to 7-3 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the NEWMAC.
Babson jumped out to an early 1-0 lead before the Wheaton offense got to work. Jenna Tewksbury knotted the game at 1-1 with a free-position goal at the 21:11 mark, before Allie Bush dished the ball to Katie Peters to earn Wheaton the lead. Senior Brooke Sabol pushed the Lyon lead to 3-1 with 11:31 remaining in the half on yet another free position goal.
The Beavers, Emily Bresnahan, responded at the end of the half with back-to-back goals to send the two sides into the half deadlocked at 3-3.
Bresnahan completed the hat trick at the start of the second half, putting the Beavers back on top. McKenzie Tucci found goal again for Babson moments later, which was followed by a goal from Francesca Giovanucci.
Trailing 6-3, Katherine Kowal found the back of the net for Wheaton with 9:25 left to play. That would be as close as the Lyons would get as Babson netted one more goal before the end of regulation.

Wheaton edged out Babson in groundballs 22-21, while both teams put up 18 shots. The Lyons completed 15-of-21 clear attempts.
