LEWISTON, Maine - First-year Lilly Callahan picked up her first career hat-trick Monday evening in the Wheaton College women's lacrosse teams 18-7 loss at Bates College.
Callahan converted three of her four shots, while winning one draw control for the Lyons. Senior Angela Mallis ended the contest with two goals, while Maddy Lahm and first-year Molly Covarrubias each netted one. Senior Giovanna Bishop led the team with three assists, while Covarrubias had two and Hannah Gasperoni picked up one.
Bates took an early 3-0 lead, but Wheaton surged back tying the game with three goals within a two-minute span. Mallis netted the first goal with help from Covarrubias, while was swiftly followed by the first of Callahan's three goals. The first-year netted the equalizer with 20:26 on the clock with a feed from Cavarrubias.
Bates pulled back ahead with 13:05 on the clock, but were matched by a goal from Lahm with 11:48 to go. The Bobcats quickly recaptured the lead with two goals, but Wheaton closed out the half with three straight goals to take a 7-6 lead into intermission.
Unlike the first half, the Lyons were unable to match the Bobcats goal for goal.
Wheaton returns to the field on Saturday, March 18 at Bridgewater State for a 12 p.m. contest.
