PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team hit the road for a non-conference contest Saturday afternoon at Plymouth State's Arold Field with PSU edging out the Lyons 11-10.
Sam Sullivan led PSU with four goals, while Veronyca Daniels netted three in the win.
Wheaton got on the board first with two goals in the opening 10 minutes of action. Senior Angela Mallis put the first one away for the Lyons with help from Peters, while Peters scored her first of the day with 19:35 on the clock. Daniels countered with two goals of her own, knotting the game at 2-2 with a little over 10 minutes remaining in the opening frame.
Peters earned the lead back for Wheaton minutes later, but the lead was short lived with Sophia Guerriero and Sullivan scoring minutes a part. First-year Lilly Callahan tied the game at 4-4 with a good free position attempt with 3:07 to go in the opening half. Sullivan earned the lead back for PSU two minutes later, which was quickly followed by a Sarah Thompson goal. Bishop netted her first goal of the game with the opening half coming to a close with a quality pass from Molly Covarrubias
PSU opened the second half with goals from Daniels and Sullivan, making it an 8-5 contest. Wheaton countered with three straight goals, starting with Peters third of they day. Kennelly Allerton and Bishop netted the other two goals with made free position attempts with the Lyons down players.
Plymouth State responded with three straight goals of its own, taking an 11-8 advantage. Wheaton tried to get back into the game with goals from Peters and Covarrubias pulling them within a goal. However, the Lyon offense would go cold in the final four minutes, helping PSU maintain the lead.
Wheaton returns to the field on Wednesday, April 26 at 4 p.m. for its final regular season game of the season. The Lyons will travel to Wellesley for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest.
