Cipriano and Mink both score twice in the victory
NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College women's soccer junior Julia Cipriano (Middlebury, Conn./Pomperaug) and first-year midfielder Jessie Mink (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) both found the back of the net twice to guide the Lyons to a 5-0 non-conference win over St. Joseph's College (Me.) on Saturday evening at Mirrione Stadium.
Cipriano put the hosts ahead, 1-0, just five minutes and two seconds into the contest with a breakaway goal on a cross from Kelsee Howes (Maynard, Mass./Maynard) and quickly made it 2-0 at the 15:35 mark as she struck home a rebound off Howes' initial shot and the Blue and White never looked back.
Senior co-captain Lauren Corigliano (Roselle Park, N.J./Roselle Park) notched her first goal of the season in the 20th minute on a feed by Megan Healy (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington), while Mink scored her first collegiate goal off of a rebound at 40:38 and capped the scoring in the 58th minute.
First-year forward Carly Costello (Holyoke, Mass./Holyoke) initiated Mink's second tally of the evening with a beautiful run down the right flank and a crisp pass towards the center of the box to classmate Caren McCarthy (San Jose, Calif./Pioneer) who one-touched a pass to Mink near the left post. Mink followed with a shot under the dive of Monks' sophomore goalkeeper Marina Cameron (Houlton, Maine/Houlton) to complete the tick-tack-toe tally which came in transition from the midfield.
Wheaton junior goalkeeper Taylor Wilson (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) made five saves to pick up her first victory of the season (18th career) and her 11th career shutout. Cameron stopped a season-high eight shots in the loss.
The Lyons outshot the Monks, 26-11, including a 20-6 differential in the first half alone, and also held a slight, 3-2, margin in corner kicks.
