Women's Soccer Falls 3-0 at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's soccer team dropped a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest 3-0 at Springfield College Saturday afternoon at Brock-Affleck Field.

The loss drops the Lyons to 9-4 on the season and 1-3 in conference action, while the Pride improve to 6-3-2 and 2-1-2 in the NEWMAC.

Sophomore goalkeeper Leann Wolf came up with three saves after earning the start, before first-year Alexa Barbagallo took over in the final 12 minutes of action. Barbagallo made two saves. Springfield, who outshot Wheaton in both halves, held a 22-10 shot advantage.

Junior Megan Healy led the Lyons with three shots, while Aymara O'Brien-Pappalardo finished with two which were both on goal.

Wheaton kept Springfield off the board in the opening half, but could not stop the Pride in the second. A foul outside the box in the 31st minute led to a free-kick, which made its way off the cross bar and into goal. Springfield netted its final two goals in the final twenty minutes of the game.

The Lyons return to action with another road game on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at Emerson College for a 6 p.m. contest.
