Lasers Earn 2-0 Win Over Women's Soccer

NEWTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's soccer team lost 2-0 at Lasell College Thursday night in a non-conference contest. 

The host team held a 23-11 advantage in shots, while the Lyons had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. 

First-year Alexa Barbagallo got the start in goal for the Lyons, coming up with 12 saves in 90 minutes of work. Sarah LaClair earned the win for the Lasers after making five saves. 

Paytne Walker scored the game-winning goal in the 33rd minute on a cross into the box by Carly Zdanek. The Lasers netted their ensurance goal in the 75th minute with a converted penalty kick by Erika Badger. 

Caren McCarthy led the Lyons in shots with five, while Lily Scammon got off two. Both players put one shot on frame. Wheaton put Lasell under fire early in the first half with McCarthy, Aymara O'Brien-Pappalardo, Alexa Sanchez and Scammon rattling off consecutive shots over a nine minute span. The second half saw the Lyons earn all four of their corner kick attempts. 

The Lyons return home for their next contest, hosting Mount Holyoke in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. during Fall Fest
