NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's soccer team scored one goal in each half to earn a 2-0 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) shutout of the United States Coast Guard Academy Tuesday evening at Christina Mirrione '99 Stadium.
Sophomore Logan Ahearn put the Lyons (11-6; 3-4 NEWMAC) on the board in the 44th minute with her first goal of the season. The play began with first-year Noelle Perciballi sending Ahearn a perfectly placed pass across the box. Ahearn redirected the ball back across the frame, sending it over the keepers head.
Senior Alexa Sanchez doubled Wheaton's lead in the 63rd minute with her second goal of the season. Brooke Collard headed the ball on frame forcing the Bear goalkeeper to make a save. Instead of hanging onto the ball, it deflected off Rachel Boohar, right to Sanchez who easily put it away.
Boohar ended the contest with nine saves for the Coast Guard Academy, while Leann Wolf came up with eight in 74 minutes of work. First-year Alexa Barbagallo came in for Wolf in the final minutes of the second half and was not forced to make a save.
Wheaton returns to the field with a match at Clark University on Saturday, Oct. 22 with the game beginning at 1 p.m.
