NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's soccer team used four goals to collect a 4-1 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win over visiting Smith College Saturday afternoon.
The Lyons wasted no time getting started with senior Aymara O'Brien-Pappalardo netting the first goal of the contest in the 13th minute of action. Chloe Troy followed with what would be the game-winner in the 17th minute after heading in a Kyla Magalhaes corner kick. Sadie Recht netted the third goal of the half for Wheaton in the 34th minute after collecting a rebound off a Smith save and redirecting it into the net. Wheaton added one more goal in the 62nd minute with Hannah Lepordo finding Jaime Rattenni at the post where she was able to slip the ball past the Smith keeper. The Pioneers earned their only goal of the contest in the 84th minute courtesy of Reilly Sullivan.
Wheaton outshot Smith 24-10 while holding a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Alexa Barbagallo made six saves in the complete-game victory, while Naomi Falkenberg and Noemi Howland combined for 10 saves.
