Women's Soccer Falls to WPI 2-1

NORTON, Mass. - A second-half goal from Elizabeth Rocco lifted visiting WPI past the Wheaton College women's soccer team in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action Tuesday evening at Mirrione Stadium.

The Engineers (13-3, 5-2 NEWMAC) took an early 1-0 lead on a Kristen McCrea goal in the 17th minute after collecting the ball at the edge of the six-yard box, where she slipped a shot near post under a stretched out Alexa Barbagallo. The Lyons (7-4-3, 4-4 NEWMAC) tied the game at 1-1 in the 26th minute when Hannah Lepordo found Chloe Troy for her team-leading 10th goal of the year. The play started with Jaime Rattenni who beat a couple of players down the left side of the field before sending the ball across to Lepordo, who was able to find Troy at the right side of the goal, where she beat a defender, before pulling the ball back across her body and into the net.

WPI netted the game-winner in the 63rd minute when Sofia Orrico dished the ball to Rocco who was able to put it away.

Barbagallo ended the contest with four saves, while Mandy St. Germain finished the contest with six saves for the Engineers.
